Beneath the Behaviour

Type: Virtual

Date: Wednesday, November 11 - Time: 7:00pm-8:30pm

Facilitator: Sonia Santos, Alison Marshall, Mental Health Consultant

This session intends to help educators build confidence in understanding, tracking, and responding to challenging behaviours in early learning and child care settings. Grounded in a mental health and developmental perspective, the presentation explores how behaviour is often a form of communication, reflecting a child's underlying emotions, unmet needs, or experiences of dysregulation.

Participants will learn how to use tools such as ABC (Antecedent-Behaviour-Consequence) tracking to identify behaviour patterns, uncover potential triggers, and better understand the function of a child's behaviour. Facilitators will also introduce a supportive framework educators to develop their own three-step behaviour support plan, helping them move from insight to intentional action. Through discussion, reflection, and real-world examples, educators will explore evidence-informed strategies that support social-emotional development, strengthen relationships, and promote positive outcomes for children.

By reframing behaviour through a compassionate, trauma-informed lens, this session aims to enhance educator confidence, build responsive practices, and support the creation of inclusive environments where all children can feel understood, supported, and successful.

This session requires a minimum of ten participants. Participants will be notified a week in advance if cancellation is necessary.
