Join us for an evening exploring how children’s books can support children’s emotional literacy.
Using a protocol for examining children’s books, we will invite you to dive deeper in the study of children’s literature as a medium to support emotional literacy, in both children and educators.
In this session, we will explore the book “The Color Monster: A Story About Emotions”, written by Anna Llenas (every participant will receive a copy of this book). Through our study, we will reflect on our own thoughts, emotions and values; we will dig deeper into the text and the images to interpret valuable messages; and we will consider ways we could bring the ideas of the book to life through curriculum making.
This month’s book selection: The Color Monster: A Story About Emotions
Author: Anna Llenas
Description: One day, Color Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad, and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through color. As this adorable monster learns to sort and define his mixed up emotions, he gains self-awareness and peace as a result. Everyone will enjoy sharing this concept book that taps into both socio-emotional growth and color concepts in a simple, friendly way.
