Type: Virtual

Date: Wednesday, May 6th Time: 6:30 - 8:30 PM

Facilitator: Maria Cabal Garces, Pedagogical Leader, Early Years Professional Resource Centre

“Care is an action, task, ritual or routine through which we physically respond to the child’s needs.”

“Care is an attitude through which we show our support for the child’s growth, health and protection by our response, attention, tone and presence.”

“Care is an ethic, a moral code by which we encounter one another with the view that care is the seed of our strength and survival.”

(Illuminating Care The Pedagogy and Practice of Care, Carol Garboden Murray, page 7).

Nurturing the Practices of CARE series is a professional learning series that will invite you to explore the practical ways in which learning is happening and can be nurtured during our daily routines of sleep and rest, toileting, and meals and snacks. During our times together, we will look more carefully at what is done during these daily routines, think about why practices are done, and understand more deeply how our actions during those moments of care impact children and families (HDLH, Page, 16). These sessions are inspired by the book “Illuminating Care. The Pedagogy and Practice of Care in Early Childhood Communities” written by Carol Garbodden Murray. There will be three different sessions, which explore aspects of care related to sleep and rest, toilet teaching and learning, and meals and snacks.

During PART 3, we will focus primarily on the Care Routine of Meals and Snacks. More specifically, we will:

  • Develop a pedagogy of Care for meals and snacks.
  • Gain a better understanding of our emerging relationships with food.
  • Learn about how to create structures and environments that support eating together, a respect for food, and developing the skills needed for meaningful engagement at the table.

Participants can choose which of the three sessions they would like to attend. Registration for all sessions is not a requirement.

This session requires a minimum of ten participants. Participants will be notified by email if cancellation is necessary.

6 seats available.
