C:D:C Ratios: Connection is Key

Type: In-Programme Professional Learning

Early Years Professional Resource Centre

In the Think, Feel, Act article titled “The Power of Positive Adult Child Relationships: Connection is the Key”, Dr. Jean Clinton describes the importance of creating connection with young children. Dr. Clinton uses the example of the C:D:C Ratio to explain the balance between children’s connection with caregivers compared to caregiver guidance and direction. This team meeting session invites participants to explore the balance between correcting, directing and connecting in their interactions with young children, and encourages us to consider how we might bring greater awareness to our daily C:D:C ratio in order to create a positive environment that supports the social and emotional development of children.
