Inclusive Sensory Play

Type: In-Programme Professional Learning

Early Years Professional Resource Centre

Children use their senses to explore and learn about the world, and each child has their own unique sensory needs. While most people may be familiar with five senses of hearing, smell, sight, taste and touch, there are other important senses related to movement, balance, and body awareness.

This team meeting session will:

  • Introduce learners to the seven senses,
  • Explain how sensory processing is crucial for developing motor skills, speech and language, cognition, memory, social development, learning and attention span, and
  • Promote the value of providing varied sensory experiences to support development, calm children’s nervous systems and promote positive behaviours and social interactions.
