Science and Skills of Co-Regulation

Type: In-Programme Professional Learning

Early Years Professional Resource Centre

We hear a lot about the need for self-regulation in early learning, but what about co-regulation? Co-regulation is a dynamic, supportive and collaborative process vital to the development of self-regulation. It’s through warm and responsive interactions that we can help young children learn how to become self-aware of their own stress response and recovery during life’s inevitable challenges.

Before we can help children to regulate, we must understand the body’s fascinating stress-response systems and build upon our own stress regulation skills.

Join us as we explore the “why” behind the need for co-regulation, how our bodies work in response to stress, and what we can do in the moment to regulate ourselves and each other through our daily interactions.

Because it’s when we’ve built a culture of co-regulation that we can begin to support children in self-regulation!
