Thinking with Behaviour (New Content Added)
Type: In-Programme Professional Learning
This interactive series will explore dispositions, observation and reflective practices, as well as ways in which we can respond to behaviours using a pedagogical approach. Particular elements that we will be exploring include:
Session 1
• In this session, we will explore the concept of ‘behaviour’ and reflect about the meaning it has for us as educators.
• We will also explore the concept of pedagogy and the dispositions we need to activate in order to reframe our own view of children’s behaviours.
Session 2
• In the second session, we will spend time reflecting why our responses to children’s behaviours matter.
• We will also walk through a process for “in-the-moment responses” to children’s behaviours that emphasizes pausing, connecting, staying curious, and setting firm limits.
• We will practice this process alongside some relevant childcare scenarios.
Session 3
• During this third session, we will use a cycle for observation and reflection to help us think more deeply about responses to children’s behaviours at the programme level.
• We will also spend time reflecting about our observation practices and how they can support us in responding meaningfully to children’s behaviours.
Session 4
• This final session will focus on considering the many voices that can contribute to making programme decisions that support children in early learning programmes.
• We will also consider the many possibilities that could influence children’s behaviours.
• We will engage in reflective exercises throughout the session, focused on stories from programme.
